700 pairs of panties stolen from Westfield store

STAFF WRITERPolice continue to investigate an incident in which undergarments valued at more than $6,000 were stolen from the downtown Victoria’s Secret.
About 700 pairs of panties priced at $9 apiece were swiped from the store a little after 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Westfield Police Capt. Cliff Auchter said.
Auchter said Friday that police have no suspects. The Broad Street store was the target of three other thefts last year alone, Auchter said, including one as recent as last December.
“I know that in the past this has been an issue throughout the state and throughout the whole region,” Auchter said, “because these items are easily concealed and very valuable.”
Undergarments taken from the popular national chain of lingerie stores often end up being resold at flea markets and other places at lower prices, Auchter said. Four people believed to be behind a multi-state string of Victoria’s Secret thefts that resulted in losses of up to $1 million in merchandise were arrested outside a Pennsylvania Victoria’s Secret last year, according to a report in the Philadelphia Inquirer.(via)
Gah. Who would buy Victoria’s Secret panties at a flea market? Don’t they know they’re poorly constructed?
